i've got a love hate relationship with windows 2000.
it was nothing but a hassle on the new laptop i picked up. i couldn't get it to pick up the built in modem even after i installed the drivers for it, and when i installed the external i have kicking around the house it'd make a connection and work for five minutes and then just up and die. so beyond that i got fed up and took it into work where i put windows me on it. i know windows me is never the answer to any problem, but it picked up all the hardware right out of the box so i'm not going to complain until system restore eats my hard drive...
so if that's the hate, where's the love? well, today tim walked in my office with a scsi card and an eight speed cd-r to put on my system. i'd been itching for a cd-r for quite some time. i'd also been looking for an excuse to install the firewire card i'd had sitting in my box of stuff. so i powered down, moved some stuff around, plugged everything in and screwed it all back together. despite a bit of stupidity on my behalf [not plugging the keyboard and mouse back in the right ports] windows 2000 detected everything and made no noise about anything. hell, i almost thought it didn't install because i didn't get any notice that windows had detected a new device or anything like that. the only way i could be sure was to check the device manager and install nero and burn off a quick cd...
so i'm listening to the cd i just burned, and i'm getting ready to make some more. from this practially brainless install process my appreciation for windows 2000 has come back, but i'm just waiting for something to go horribly awry so i can hate it again.
waiting...
