remeber when kenny rogers was more than a shill for san diegan indian casinos and the face for a rotisserie chicken chain? me too. which is why i was happy to come into a copy of cake's cover of "ruby, don't take your love to town" [mp3]. now i'm by no means a kenny rogers fan, but the dark lyrics of this song always sort of appealed to me. cake's take on it is a good one, but i'm surprised they didn't make it an album track on "pressure chief". it could have been a strong single for them.
