i fucking hate spammers

so here's my project for the day at work: figure out how many valid mail servers got blocked by spamshield and remove their five.fifty messages from sendmail's access file. under two.thousand down, only nine.thousand to go... honestly, the big thing that would make this a whole assload easier is if people would actually name their mail servers either mail, smtp or mx and maybe a number. like mx02.whatever.com would be easy to pick out, but various .edus that use shit like sinewave.somesilly.edu just make my day all the more harder. it's called common sense - people should try to use it sometimes.
updata: after sorting thru all the messages by hand i now have three.hundred and sixty ip addresses that i have to unblock. now it's time to debate which would be faster, writing a script to do my work for me or taking the time to take them all out by hand...

you never know who's in the crowd with you...

jonah from lablogs was at the underworld show last night too. and he's even posted a review of the event.

the show last night was nothing short of amazing. i'm running on four hours sleep but i'm still so goddamn wired from the show that it doesn't matter. i'll have a review available either tonight or tommorow morning. until then entertain yourself with the pictures i took at the show.
[warning to dial-up users: the page loads at about eight.hundred k. take that into consideration before you go taking a look at the pictures.]

a turn of events

well, it looks like ghent isn't going to the show tonight so i'm flying abso-fucking-lutley solo. i've got a room at the ramada right down the street and while i have to get up at a quarter of seven to get to work on time tommorow everything should be fine. hopefully i can smuggle my camera in and grab some pictures of the show. i just know that it'll be amazing...

tonight i go to see underworld live for my first time ever. the past month has been pure torture as i've waited patiently for the show to come - and tonight i finally get to see them. i've been looping show bootlegs [with the occasional album for good measure] almost non-stop since i got the tickets for the show. i had to sell my girlfriend's ticket and i'm flying solo tonight, but i'm dragging her to their next run thru los angeles - class the next morning or not. hopefully i'll get out to la in time for the dirty meet, but if i don't i still know i'm going to have an amazing time.

asian oddities

i don't know what it is about today but i've been stumbling across some really fun and ammusing asian links... like did you know that psinet's first japanese pop was hosted in a bathroom? or that thailand has a ban on showing smoking on television? since i'm not a tobacco fan [but i put up with it since seventy.five percent of my friends smoke] i applaud them for doing that but i've learned that they use porno blur on patty and selma when they smoke on their rebroadcast of simpsons episodes. finally, i've been enamoured with how absolutley weird and camp bollywood is and i stumbled across a bollywood album gallery that's rife with photoshop phriday material.

no i wouldn't like fries with that...

life's been interesting lately. i've sorta pulled out of my social circle to get my life sorted out. if self-improvement is masturbation i'm going to have the biggest right arm you've seen in a couple months. so far i've taken the past couple weeks and gotten things solid on the girlfriend front and i'm gonna be tossing a whole bunch of horrible 486/pentiums and other outdated computer crap. if you live in the area [north orange county] i can drop you a list of things that i'm getting rid of before next trash day and an address where you can pick them up at. does this mean that i'm ditching the "master of junk" title? fuck no. i've still got plenty of functional secondhand hardware that i plan to get running. it may be time to ditch my broke-ass desk for some metal industrial shelving tho.

amongst all this reorginization i'm working on somewhere around a dozen projects that i plan on getting done before the new year. everything from starting my fledgling webdesign side gig to getting some colaborative tools i've wanted to do for a couple years implemented. on top of that i've decided that the most important thing i need to do is get a bit more healthy. the past couple days i've eaten three square meals and even tho i've been a tad bit hungry at times i think i'm gonna be okay there. because i've trimmed my portion sizes down, i'm saving money too. today's famous star from carl's jr. with no mayo/dressing/ketchup and extra lettuce/tomato ran me a whole dollar and a half. oh, and since megan's in school monday-wednesday and she's getting on a normal sleep schedule i seem to be doing so too. it's nice being able to wake up well rested - even if i am suffering from a cold right now. next on my dockett is to start walking during the evenings, maybe even working out on the weight bench my brother inherited from our old neighbor jon.

"the answer to my hunger is starvation / the answer to my self doubt is action / i smash hope with confrontation / confidence is a guess / i’m here and we’ll see if i fall or not / at the end of all of this we’ll know the truth / the gun isn’t loaded until all the bullets have been fired"

liberal realism

a couple days ago when i mentioned michael moore's membership in the nra and how uncle chuck and the funky bunch scare me, i got a couple mails asking how i could consider myself a liberal and still belive in gun ownership. at the time i didn't have a good answer. oddly enough, moore's film "bowling for columbine" came up on the la2600 list today and i came up with a better grip on what sort of liberal i am.

one could say i'm not a mainline liberal - i belive in one's second ammendment rights. i oppose the "war on terror" that's become a war on anyone this administration isn't down with. i hate saddam hussein. i voted for perot. i say let the valley secede and if they screw themselves in the process - so be it [even if my girlfriend lives there]. ralph nader pisses me off, but so do bush and gore. in an election there are no lesser of two, three or four evils. i'm pro-choice and i think if religious zealots can get away with bombing clinics, the formerly-pregnant should be able to bomb churches. i'm not comfortable enough with god and racists to join a militia, but i think some of those crazy fucks in montana have the right idea. i'd love to keep the world free of wars, crime, hate and sorrow... give everyone free healthcare and keep them all in school until they can go out and make a killer living doing something they love - but nothing from the previous two sentences is cost effective.

i guess you could say i'm a liberal realist.

mind you, i still hate aligning myself with textbook liberals like moore or nader but i still consider myself one. *shrug*

new cell phone

i had to unexpectedly upgrade to a new cell phone handset last night and i've got to say that my new one frightens the shit out of me. it's half the size of my old one, has way too many features that i'll never utilize and has a seven day standby on the regular battery. i halfway miss the bulk of my old phone - this one feels as if i could crush it with no less than a simple squeeze of my hand. but it does everything i wanted, so i'm not going to complain too much. all i need is a vibrating ringer, a flip to cover the keypad and access to wap [wireless web] pages. i don't need a calculator, a scheduler, games and midi ringers - although the last one certianly is nice.
