kroq does april fool's

every year for april fool's day the kevin and bean show [on kroq in los angeles] do something completely outlandish. i've been listening to them since nineteen.ninety.three and it seems as if every prank tops the previous year's one. i've compiled a small list of pranks they've pulled that i can recall:

:: for quite some time kevin and bean have made fun of the nine.oh.nine [the inland empire, valley of the dirt people] so last year they did a free show in an ontario parking lot with blink one.eighty.two to make up for all the crap they've given everyone who lives in the nine.oh.nine. not only did the free show not exist but the city of ontario had to bring out extra police to take care of the traffic congestion. everyone involved in the prank was in the kroq studio, including blink one.eighty.two who recorded a live set for the occasion.
:: thom yorke from radiohead had come into the studio a couple years back and basically things were set to be a regular interview... everything in the day had been normal until kevin started poking fun at thom for his lazy eye. a fistfight broke out and if i remeber correctly kevin was fired. what's ammusing is the fact that news sources were reporting the fistfight as fact.
:: turning on the radio back in high school i was shocked to find out that kevin and bean had traded places with the local rap station [kpwr, power 106] djs "the baker boyz". of course the standard "fish out of water" comedy applied as both sets of djs acted as if they'd been traded for good. still one of my favorite promos that they still break out from time to time is "kevin and bean, waking that ass up on power 106".
:: way back in the day [and i'm a bit shady on this] they did their april fools day show in spanish. the number one station in the los angeles radio market at the time was a latin station so kevin and bean decided to get with the times and do their entire show "en espanol".

i know i'm missing quite a few of their pranks but those are the ones that are burned in my memory. if anyone has any info on any that i've missed please feel free to comment. [ discuss ]

snoonch to the noonch

thanks to the lovely and very cool tis i've got a ticket to go see a special screening of dogma followed by a q&a with kevin smith for april fool's day at the arclight. i've seen kevin speak a couple times and it's really a treat to hear him take a half hour to answer a simple two minute question from the audience. expect pictures.

hail to the theif

if you weren't already aware the new radiohead album "hail to the theif" has been leaked to the internet two and a half months before it's supposed to be released in stores. of course there is some talk that the leaked copy is not the final master of the album and some of the track i've heard do have a little more of a raw feeling to them.

upon listening to the album i'm happy to see that they haven't gone back to rocking out completely as most of the music press had predicted. they're still the dark, brooding radiohead from "kid a" and "amnesiac" which i must say is the radiohead i love the most. this is definatley on the "must buy" list when it hits stores.

a handful of quick things and then i'm gone:

[ one ] i finally broke down and got audioblogger for the sidebar blog [oyayubizoku]. i've got twelve posts a month [which comes out to about three posts a week] to burn thru and i know i'll go thru a couple tonight when i drop megan off at the airport for her trip to italy.
[ two ] no updates came down the pipe yesterday due to the fact that i spent most of the day babysitting a mail server that kept getting hammered offline. when mail wasn't acting up our router decided to drop the upstairs route after reset and i was without access for an hour while that was getting fixed. to top it off, as i was leaving a customer showed up and i had to babysit him downstairs. on the flip side of things i'm up one copy of the longhorn beta [4008] which i should have installed under vmware on monday or tuesday so i can play around with it. i've also finally got a copy of slackware nine which i'm looking forward to playing around with.
[ three ] i should have the death race 2003 page up by tommorow.
[ four ] i'm going to be starting work on a new project which i'm calling "folsom" that should utilize the blogger api in a new way that i'm pretty excited about.

mirror project funding drive

i feel bad about not mentioning this sooner but heather's been taking donations to get the mirror project on a nicer server. she's met her goal, but she can always use a bit more funding to help get the mirror project book off the ground. i threw in a fiver while the drive was still going on and i feel good that my little donation is going to go to making something i love better.

digital photography tips

the o'reilly network has some really solid tips on digital photography that i'm itching to try. all i need to do now is get something a bit nicer than my old one-point-three megapixel sony.
